The Lim Tze Peng Art Prize Competition is a biennial competition organised by the Lim Tze Peng Art Gallery for the Chung Cheng family of schools which comprise the alumni and students of Chung Cheng High School (Main), Chung Cheng High School (Yishun) and Nanyang Junior College.
It is Mr Lim’s sincere wish to do his part to cultivate the next generation of artists. As a young man, Mr Lim would devote his time standing in the streets of Chinatown, drawing what he saw then. As a result, today, we are able to enjoy and relish Singapore’s past through Mr Lim’s artworks. The pioneer artist’s advice to young artists is that they should not just spend time indoors painting but to also head outdoors, to soak in our country’s uniqueness, observe and be inspired to draw Singapore scenes and surrounding sights.
Inaugurated in 2015, the competition aims to encourage both students and alumni alike to endeavour on a journey to explore and capture the ever-changing landscapes of Singapore. We hope that in the process of participating in the competition, young artists will be encouraged to bring to life on canvas, familiar scenes, and little aspects of their daily lives. We also hope that, in the viewing of the final works, there will be an increase in love and pride in every student, staff, and alumni for Singapore as they reminisce about the changing cityscape scenery.
